A team of researchers from Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History, which is based in the Mexican capital, is responsible for the latest discovery. The researchers were conducting research at the Toniná archaeological site, which was once one of the Mayan settlements. The name in the Tseltal language means “house of stone,” which refers to the numerous stone carvings and structures found at the site.
