Africa’s largest peninsula has always been on the target of world powers. Where is it actually located?
What is the largest peninsula in Africa? This is a question that has certainly been asked more than once in geography lessons, as well as in popular teleseminars. Today I will dispel any doubts on this topic.
What is the largest peninsula in Africa?
Africa not only has the most countries of all the continents, but also one of the world’s largest peninsulas, that is, land jutting out into the sea or lake. I’m talking about the Somali Peninsula, also known as the Horn of Africa. Africa’s largest peninsula is located on the eastern coast of the Black Land, between the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
It is covered with savannah, dry forests and vegetation characteristic of desert areas. On the Somali Peninsula is located Africa’s easternmost continental point — Cape Hafun.
The Somali Peninsula covers an area of 750,000 sq. km, which ranks sixth in the world. In this respect it is second only to the Arabian Peninsula, the Indochina Peninsula, the Indian Peninsula, the Labrador Peninsula and the Scandinavian Peninsula. However, it is ahead of the Iberian Peninsula, the Balkan Peninsula or the Taimyr Peninsula.
