On January 4, 2010, the world’s tallest building opened. At 828 meters high, the Burj Khalifa skyscraper still towers over all other structures on Earth erected by human hands.

Where does the name Burj Khalifa come from?

The building is called the Burj Khalifa. Why is the structure erected in Dubai named after the ruler of the neighboring city of Abu Dhabi — Khalifa bin Zayed? At the time of construction, the name Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower) was used.

Well, the aforementioned ruler of Abu Dhabi and also president of the United Arab Emirates lent Dubai $25 billion, without which the “global architectural icon” would not have been completed. Dubai, already in debt, simply ran out of money. Such a scandal the United Arab Emirates could not afford.
