Cana One prints… beverages — it’s the world’s first molecular liquid printer!
With the Cana One printer, it is possible to print any beverage that comes to mind for its user. The device could pave the way for food replicators, which until now have only been known from books and sci-fi movies.
Although replicating meals is probably a long way off, Cana has attempted to replicate beverages. The result is the Cana One beverage printer, which can produce several thousand different products.
How it works
According to Cana’s researchers, each beverage consists primarily of water, at least 90 percent. Everything else is additives such as sugar, alcohol or flavor compounds. With this knowledge, the researchers were able to discover how to identify and isolate these molecules that drive flavor and aroma so that the printer could easily recreate thousands of beverages.
Unlike other systems that produce one specific beverage using cartridges of a particular flavor and aroma and generate massive amounts of waste, Cana aims to be an eco-friendly solution. Not only does the printer offer more choices, but most importantly, it delivers the ordered drinks with almost zero waste.
