Frozen Hope: The Quest for Immortality through Cryonics

Cryonics is meant to offer the chance to extend life or even achieve immortality. This vision is so enticing that every year dozens of people entrust their bodies or brains to companies and organizations specializing in “freezing” people. Yet, there is still a lack of evidence that this method can actually work. While many have undergone cryopreservation, no one has been “revived” from this state.

Medicine is advancing at an incredible pace. Just consider that not long ago almost every cancer diagnosis was a death sentence with no chance of appeal, but thanks to contemporary pharmacological, radiological, and surgical methods, the average lifespan of patients has significantly increased. The same applies to HIV carriers. It cannot be ruled out that in the future doctors will be able to cure most, or perhaps even all, diseases. It’s not surprising, then, that many patients seek ways to extend their lives. One of these ways is cryonics.
