Germany is reintroducing a promotional monthly ticket. Last year it was a real tourist hit. Will the new price encourage travelers?
When planning this year’s vacation, Germany is worth considering. Our western neighbors are reintroducing a monthly ticket at a promotional price. With Deutschland-Ticket you can travel on streetcars, subways, buses, as well as commuter and regional trains. You will have to buy separate tickets for long-distance trains.
Monthly ticket for 49 euros
The 49-euro monthly ticket is intended to encourage Germans and tourists to travel by public transportation. It’s also a response to rising inflation and soaring gas and energy prices. Last year, a similar ticket cost much less, at 9 euros. However, it was valid only during the holiday months, from June to August. This time the Deutschland-Ticket is to be honored for at least two years.
It’s more expensive than last year, but comparing Germans’ spending on public transportation, buying a monthly ticket is still worth it. For example, a day ticket in Berlin costs €8.80.
