Historic Discovery: Tomb of Chinese Emperor Who Founded a Dynasty
Chinese scientists have reported that they’ve unearthed the tomb of an emperor. Researchers believe he was the founder of the so-called Northern Zhou Dynasty. His burial site was located near the city of Xianyang in central China, in the province of Shaanxi.
Throughout China’s history, many different dynasties ruled the country. During its tumultuous history, warring clans and kingdoms vied for influence in the region, and successive eras led to the point in history when the country ultimately became a superpower. However, not all dynasties have been scientifically confirmed, like the Xia Dynasty, which is still considered legendary to this day. Some were short-lived minor dynasties that lasted only a few years.

One of these lesser-known dynasties is the Northern Zhou Dynasty, which existed from 557 to 581 AD. Its influence extended from northern China down to the middle of the contemporary boundaries. It replaced the Western Wei Dynasty and was eventually overthrown by the Sui Dynasty. Xiaomin is considered the founder of the Northern Zhou Dynasty and its first emperor.
