Human Remains Discovered in Prison Sewers Dating Thousands of Years
During the construction of a new prison in England, human remains were discovered. It turned out to be the burial of a person who was buried about 4500 years ago.
In the English village of Full Sutton in East Yorkshire, construction of a new prison was underway. During sewer works, human skeletal remains were found. Construction workers notified local archaeologists of the discovery, who immediately came to the site. The site was secured, and the bones were subjected to examination.
Neolithic remains in prison channels
The remains were found on a small, round mound. The deceased was placed in a grave pit in the fetal position. Dating indicated that this person lived about 4500 years ago. The research team concluded that this was not the first such burial on a round barrow. Similar graves have been found several times in Great Britain.
