Jelling is a small town in central Jutland, located about 250 kilometers from Copenhagen. It is inhabited by just over 3,000 people. Seemingly, it does not stand out for anything special. Just an ordinary town, like many in the smallest of all the Nordic countries. However, it often turns out that appearances introduce the wrong suggestion, and so it is in this case. The history of Jelling, like the official history of Denmark, begins in the 10th century, at a time when Vikings ruled those lands. Traces of the fearless warriors are present throughout Jutland and on many Danish islands, but it is the small town, located near Alboorg and Lindholm Høje, that deserves to be called the center of Danish statehood.
