Paphos is captivating place in Cyprus. Bays straight out of a picture, villages filled with the aroma of good food, and the wild Akamas Peninsula nearby.

The sun shines here for 340 days a year. It’s warm even in winter, though spring is the most beautiful time in Cyprus. So, let’s visit Paphos, the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023, to get to know this city and its surroundings better. There’s much more here than just the mentioned sun — history, monuments, trekking trails, and picturesque bike routes.

In Upper Paphos

Most tourists arriving in Paphos prefer to spend their time on the coast. They lie on sunbeds by hotel pools and sandy beaches or stroll along the seaside promenade with restaurants, bars, and shops. However, if you prefer a quieter retreat away from the crowds, I recommend heading to Upper Paphos, also known as Ktima, just 3.5 km from the bustling harbor.

You can sit in the shade of trees or in one of the cafes and enjoy a strong Cypriot coffee or a more refreshing coffee frappe during the summer. You can also visit art galleries, antique shops, or explore the Ethnographic Museum. Alternatively, you can come here in the evening to dine at Koutourou restaurant, run by chef Demetris Nicolaou.
