The Amazon — the green lungs of the Earth — is the most species-diverse biome on the planet. More than half of all rainforests are located within its borders, in addition to tropical grasslands, dune habitats, swamps and palm forests. All this makes it difficult to find two representatives of the flora, representing the same species, side by side in the Amazon Forest. What trees grow in the Amazon? Below I will list and describe the most interesting species.

Did you know that the area of the Amazon is more than 20 times larger than the territory of Germany? This remarkable biome, located in the basin of the world’s longest river, extends within the borders of 9 countries:

  • Brazil,
  • Ecuador,
  • Bolivia,
  • Peru,
  • Guyana,
  • French Guiana,
  • Suriname, Colombia,
  • Venezuela.

The Amazon covers an area of more than 7 million sq. km. As much as 5.5 million sq. km of Amazonian forest is covered by rainforest. Therefore, it is not surprising that we are talking about the most biologically diverse area on Earth. Per square kilometer of the Amazon forest, there are about 90,000 tons of living biomass…
