Revolutionary Concept: Converting an Asteroid into a Space Haven!
Could an asteroid become a space base inhabited by humans? According to a certain scientist, such a project is feasible and relatively inexpensive.
Thanks to increasingly advanced technologies, human activities in space may resemble science fiction movies. At least compared to our capabilities and imaginations from a few decades ago. For some time now, the idea of transforming an asteroid into a space base has resurfaced among astronomers like a boomerang. There is no shortage of voices suggesting that such an operation is currently impossible. But is it really?
How to convert an asteroid into a space base?
David W. Jensen, a retired technical employee from the now-defunct company Rockwell Collins, has developed a 65-page plan with instructions on how to turn an asteroid into a cosmic habitat. The American’s concept seems feasible and relatively inexpensive. In order to achieve another milestone on the path of space exploration, Jensen suggests focusing sequentially on:
1. Choosing an asteroid,
2. Choosing the style of the base,
3. Developing a space mission strategy, i.e., getting to the destination.
