Scientists have discovered a new dinosaur. It looked like a duck and hunted like a penguin
Analysis of the fossils, which were found in Mongolia, showed that this non-bird dinosaur could swim superbly and hunted like modern penguins, diving for its prey.
The evolutionary history of dinosaurs and the creatures that lived on our planet millions of years ago is still full of mysteries and puzzles. Fossil and DNA studies have shown that birds are modern dinosaurs that evolved directly from feathered theropod dinosaurs.
A dinosaur from 71 million years ago looked like a duck and dived like a penguin
It is also known that some birds have a body structure that allows them to swim and even dive. However, conclusive evidence has never yet been found that non-bird dinosaurs could also have been good divers.
Scientists at Seoul National University in South Korea have discovered a new species of dinosaur that may have looked like a modern duck. Analysis of fossils showed that it was able to stay afloat and even dive for food. The reptile’s remains date back 71 million years, or the Late Cretaceous period. The discovery was published in the scientific journal Communications Biology.
