Secrets of the Sahure Pyramid: The Discovery of Eight Unknown Rooms

Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered eight previously unknown chambers in the pyramid of Pharaoh Sahure. These chambers were adjacent to the burial chamber where the pharaoh’s mummy once rested. Despite its small size, the pyramid still holds secrets.

The discovery was made during efforts to secure and open the interior of the pyramid for tourism purposes. The archaeological mission is led by the German-Egyptian team from the University of Würzburg, under the direction of Egyptologist Mohamed Ismail Khaled.

“This discovery sheds new light on the layout and architecture of Sahure’s pyramid, the second king of the Fifth Dynasty and the first king buried in Abusir,” said Mostafa Waziri, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as quoted in Al Ahram newspaper.
