The Amish: how do they live beyond the present?
By some people they are considered a relic of the past, because due to their traditions, dress and lifestyle they do not fit into the modern world. Others admire them because of their simplicity of life. Where did they come from? How do they cope with life without modern conveniences?
The Amish live mainly in the United States, although also in Canada and Central America. However there is a split among the Amish and their churches are divided into those more liberal, allowing for some of the benefits of modernity, and those adhering to the so called old order, which still follow the rules established several centuries ago. However, there are exceptions here too, because although the Amish don’t have telephones in their homes, they do have them in their farm buildings. You can always ask a neighbor with a car for help with shopping or a ride to town. Besides, among the Amish there are really efficient businessmen.
The first community
The Amish originate from one of the Swiss-Alsatian-South German branches of Anabaptism. The Anabaptists, on the other hand, were one of the religious groups that denied the validity of infant baptism and practiced adult baptism.
