The Vatican Museums are among the most crowded museums in the world. During the season, there’s practically a queue every day to enter. The situation isn’t much better inside the palace, where tourists are forced to move through massive crowds. This is all because the papal collection simply isn’t designed to handle such a large number of visitors. The touring route is largely linear, making it difficult for tourists to spread out within the museum spaces.

How to Visit the Vatican Museums?

A record was set just before the pandemic when 6.8 million tourists passed through the Vatican Museums. There’s a strong possibility that the attendance in 2023 might be similar to that of 2019.
