Dover Castle: A Historical Landmark

Dover Castle was established in the 12th century and is located in southeastern England, in Kent, at a strategically significant location: it guards the shortest sea route from Britain to continental Europe.

The fortress has been accessible to visitors for years. Nonetheless, researchers occasionally make intriguing discoveries on its grounds, allowing us to better understand the history of this medieval stronghold.

A New Facet of Dover Castle

The doors were originally located at the top of the medieval St. John’s Tower. Historian Paul Pattison from English Heritage, an agency responsible for the preservation of historic sites in England, described the discovery as “astonishing.” He made the discovery after climbing a ladder to the top floor of the tower.
