In war, the winner is the one who has control over time. It cannot be reversed, but it can be bought, almost literally. The currency in this transaction is information. I would like to remind you briefly how it has been passed on since ancient times.
Let’s start with Philippides, the famous Athenian messenger who, having come from under Marathon, fell from exhaustion after uttering one word: “victory”. By the way — it is commonly believed that he ran a little over 40 km from Marathon to Athens. However, according to Herodotus, he covered a much longer route: before the battle he was sent to Sparta, where he passed on a request for help, from there he ran to the Marathon plain, and only after the battle to return to Athens. A feat all the more impressive because, after all, he was not running on a level, flat and paved road.
The message he conveyed was of strategic importance. The undestroyed part of the Persian army boarded ships and sailed towards Athens, so the inhabitants had time to prepare for defense.
