The War of the Two Roses — one of the most famous civil conflicts in history — began with the undermining of the right to the crown of the supposed rightful heir to the throne of England. The fighting between the two families claiming priority to the throne continued for 30 years. However, it should be noted that the conflict between the Lancastrians and the Yorks is the best confirmation of the validity of the saying according to which “where two fight, there the third benefits”, because neither of the warring parties came out of the skirmish victorious. What was the cause of the war between the Two Roses? How did the fighting proceed? I answer these and other questions below.

For thirty years, the crown of England changed hands, and there was great chaos in the country. The War of the Two Roses claimed a mass of lives, and yet it did not bring the expected settlement. The conflicted Lancastrians and the Yorks only lost from this conflict. Toward the end of the fighting, when it seemed that the civil war was slowly dying out, a third party to the dispute emerged, which ultimately gained the most.
