Tourist’s Colosseum Carving Lands Him in Hot Water!
The Colosseum is one of the must-see places to visit during a Roman vacation. Unfortunately, not all tourists know how to behave in a place that is almost 2,000 years old.
Rome is the second most visited city in the European Union after Paris. The Italian capital is visited by an average of 7–10 million tourists a year. Travelers are attracted by Italian cuisine and, of course, world-class monuments. One of the most important buildings in Rome and also a symbol of the city is the nearly 2,000-year-old Colosseum.
It may seem that the historical significance of the famous amphitheater is obvious. However, it turns out that it is not for everyone. For several days Italian police searched for a young man who had carved his and his girlfriend’s names on the wall of the Colosseum. The English-speaking tourist was captured on video, which made its way to social media. In less than a week on YouTube alone, the video has been played nearly a quarter of a million times.

The incident was publicized on his Twitter profile by Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano.
As he wrote, the outrageous behavior of the tourist is “a sign of great rudeness.” — “I hope that whoever did this will be identified and punished…
