Unique Photos Depict Shark with Severely Damaged Dorsal Fin Before and After Healing
The white shark has great regenerative abilities. This is shown by two exceptional photographs of the same individual. The fish, whose dorsal fin was completely torn, looked healthy several years later.
The photographs were shared on its Twitter account by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. They show a white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) named Crescent. The animal was first photographed in 2017. The greenish photo shows that its dorsal fin is torn from top to bottom.
5 years later, it was possible to photograph the same shark again. This time Crescent looks much better. Its fin has fused together, and in an amazing way. It looks as if it had undergone a precise operation, which involved sewing the torn parts together.
