Cats have unique eyes. In the animal kingdom, they stand out not only for their ability to see in the dark (not the only ones, of course) but also for their diverse eye colors. This wasn’t always obvious.

Cats, alongside dogs, are among the most popular pets. However, we encounter them not just in domestic settings. After all, they belong to the entire subfamily of predatory mammals within the feline family. Different species vary in size, habitat, and location. Currently, these wild animals live freely in Europe, Asia, both Americas, and Africa.

What eye colors can cats have?

How a cat sees is one of the most intriguing aspects of these quadrupeds. Felixes and Philomenas have the ability to see in the dark, thanks to more rods in their retinas. These are light-sensitive cells that help us discern shapes and detect movement. Interestingly, cats require 1/6th less light than humans. They function best in dim, scattered light, naturally occurring at dawn and dusk.
