Voyager 1 is an unmanned space probe launched in 1977. In 2024, the probe was over 162 astronomical units (au) away from Earth, which is approximately 24 billion kilometers. This means it is the farthest and still operational object sent into space by humans.

First message from Voyager in 5 months

The device has long passed the heliopause boundary and is on the edge of interstellar space. This means the probe sends incredibly valuable information from incredibly distant places in the Universe to Earth. The problem was that for 5 months, the device had been sending incomprehensible and enigmatic messages towards our planet, which were impossible to decipher.
