What is the Holi Festival and how is the festival of colors celebrated?

Cheerful music, boisterous fun and a veritable feast of colors — this is the shortest and most apt description of the Holi Festival, which is celebrated annually in some Asian countries. What does the Holi Festival symbolize and what is its celebration like? I will answer these questions below.

In each region of the world, the arrival of spring is celebrated somewhat differently. Residents of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and some regions of Turkey then celebrate Nouruz, the Persian New Year. The Japanese indulge in the ritual of hanami, or admiring the spectacular show created by the blooming cherry blossoms. The Swiss burn a snowman at this time, and Belarusians welcome birds returning from warm countries.

Every country is a custom. An Indian custom is to welcome spring with a song on the lips and in a “rain” of all the colors of the rainbow.
