They owe their name to the people of the Iberian Peninsula. In both Spanish and Portuguese, “flamengo” means something of “fiery color.” And indeed, what primarily distinguishes flamingos is their unusual, vibrant color.

Flamingos are large birds. The largest individuals reach up to 170 cm in height. At the same time they rarely exceed 4 kg in body weight. No wonder, then, that often a flock of birds walking gracefully is compared with models on the catwalk.

Where do flamingos live?

Except for Australia and Ocenia, flamingos can be found in all warm climate zones of the world. There are 6 different species of flamingos that inhabit other areas of the planet. Here are 6 regions where flamingos live.
