Notre-Dame Cathedral hides many secrets. You may remember that earlier this year archaeologists found two lead sarcophagi there. They were determined to be several hundred years old each. After several months, they were finally opened. Who were the dead buried in the Paris temple?
After clouds of smoke began to rise over the 4th district of Paris in 2019, the world came to a standstill for a moment. It was Notre-Dame that went up in flames. On April 15 at just after 6 pm, the French national heritage was threatened. Thanks to a rapid firefighting operation, the monuments inside the cathedral were saved. However, the fire still caused very heavy damage. The roof collapsed, as well as part of the vaults and the spire of the Paris temple.
Two lead sarcophagi have finally been opened
Although the cause of the fire has still not been determined, scientists have managed to uncover something else. In March 2022, during the renovation of the cathedral, archaeologists found two lead sarcophagi. However, no one knew of their existence, let alone who was buried in them. Eventually, researchers managed to uncover this Notre-Dame mystery.
